One Word Film

For this project, we had to do a "One Word Film." We received a word, and we had to make a short film displaying the emotions or actions of this word. This was a group project and I worked with my friends Sofia and Isabella. Our story had to last a maximum of 90 seconds.

Our story consisted of a girl who was taking a test.

During our brainstorming, we figured out what type of shots we wanted to use. At first, we faced an issue because realistically, a test wouldn't last 90 seconds. We wanted to begin with her walking in late, but it didn't work out due to the time restraints, So, we decided to make her already taking the test. We decided to make the whole premise of our story that her test was taking a long time to load, and everyone had started packing up and leaving.

Our brainstorming sheet!
Our storyboard was actually very useful! It was fun to do the storyboard and picture how our film would be. We used it the whole time during filming. It facilitated it and made it a lot faster. I also used it during editing, because I previously wanted to keep the shots in the same order. But I did end up changing some of the order of the shots, so it makes sense with the story.

I used Premiere Pro. It was my first time using it and it was really fun! I was confused at first on how to do it, but I watched some tutorials and I ended up getting the hang of it.

I believe that we did well on the planning of the project. I am glad we pre-planned it so we could get everything done faster, and we worked more efficiently. I am also glad that we decided to get all of the filming done in one day. We did come across some issues when it came to who was going to come to help us film, but it ended up working out fine. I asked some of my friends to come and it was a lot of fun! They definitely made the filming process a lot more bearable. But we did break character a couple of times.

I would say that we definitely need to work on the continuity of the filming. The lighting in some of the shots was completely different compared to some of the other shots that we took, but it's alright. We also messed up the location of where people would be sitting. I had to get rid of some planned shots just to keep the story in order. We also need to plan better where we will film future projects... The day before the shooting day, we went to the Wave and asked if we could film there. We got clearance to film there, and we showed up on Friday to film. We went to ask, and they said no since there was a club meeting. We were stressed since we didn't know what to do. We were walking around the 300s, and miraculously, Ms.Thomas was in her classroom! So we ended up filming in her class.

Overall, this project was a lot of fun! I had a lot of fun shooting with my friends, and the whole editing process was very enjoyable.

Camera Shots/Angles Quiz!

Hello! For our first AICE media project, we were assigned to do a camera shots quiz!

The assignment was to take 15 pictures using different shots, for example, a long shot or a close-up shot, and angles, like a low angle or high angle, to create a story.

My partner and I decided to do a story about two erasers, a pink and white one, going on an adventure and climbing a really tall plant. The two erasers start the climb and the Pink eraser begins to get ahead of the White eraser. The White eraser grows jealous and pushes the Pink eraser off! It's very dramatic. Thankfully the Pink eraser survives!
I had a lot of fun doing this project, it was a bit challenging to get the right angles and shots for each photo but it turned out good. I had originally brought my digital camera in hopes of using it to take the pictures but it didn't work out since it had run out of battery. We ended up just using mine and Isa's phones. I have an iPhone 14 and she has an iPhone 15 max. Despite her phone and camera being newer and "better" we liked the pictures taken on my phone better. Once we had collected all the photos, we chose which ones we liked best and added them to a PowerPoint.

We did well on the angles and despite having no dialogue, the story flowed well. It was difficult having the erasers not have faces to show their emotions, but Isabella and I portrayed the story well without having neither dialogue nor facial expressions. We could improve on some of the shots we took, especially the long shot. It was difficult to measure how good and proportionate long shots would look because of how small the erasers were. I also would've preferred to use flash or better lighting to take these photos because the iPhone camera made some of the pictures look blurry.

Overall, this project was entertaining and fun! It was cool to be able to take our own shots and come up with a story. After this quiz, I will not be able to watch movies or shows the same way.

Here is the project!
