Genre Research for Film Openng

Hi so! For our genre, my group and I explored different possibilities for the genre that we were going to do. We talked about doing horror or mystery, but we ultimately ended up choosing to do either coming-of-age or romantic comedy!

Many different aspects make a coming-of-age film a coming-of-age film! these are just some basic ones that we have to make sure to include. Most coming-of-age (COA) films typically make sure to focus on displaying the personal growth from teenage to adulthood in the character, which can lead for audiences to relate to. It's hard to define what a COA film really is since it's such a broad genre, but for the most part they teach the characters and the audiences alike a specific life lesson. Here are some examples of COA films.

Eighth Grade (2018) Directed by Bo Burnham

Lady Bird (2017) Directed by Greta Gerwig
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (2012) Directed by Stephen Chobsky

The other genre that were are thinking of doing is romantic comedy! I personally am a huge fan of rom-coms, and there are many different ways to approach this genre. They mainly follow characters through their love story in a lighthearted and comedic way. Most of the time, they have misunderstandings between the characters and heartfelt moments, which most often lead to a happy ending. A lot of romantic comedies feature a light color to parallel the light-hearted and happy tones of the films. Here are some examples of some iconic rom-coms!

13 Going On 30 (2004) Directed by Gary Winick

10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Directed by Gil Junger

Notting Hill (1999) Directed by Roger Michell
